Chapter One, Part Three:

"Well, one needs ta be able ta blend in with society," the incognito Darrik responded.

"Good, good. We need more people like you in this business, considering it has become more dangerous as of late," the man at the table replied, extending his hand toward the seat across the table. "Please, have a seat."

Darrik moved across the table, taking a seat with his fingers interlaced in front of him.

"Did anybody see you…?" the man trailed off.

"Naw, the onleh person ta see anathing wuz Mistah Doil, and that was the flash of meh muzzle," Darrik spoke back in a hushed tone. "Now… about me payment, Ingriz."

The man named Ingriz chuckled amusedly. "Yes, yes... three thousand ECs, hard cash," Ingriz said as he reached into his shirt. Shortly thereafter the shady looking man pulled a large roll of cash out, clamping it between his fingers. The cash was rolled tightly and sealed by a small fingerprint scanner band. "As agreed upon." Ingriz said, as he extended the roll of cash. The apparent Australian snatched the roll of cash from Ingriz without hesitation, pocketing it quickly within his own pouch.

"Now, next item of business… ya got anamore work fer meh?" Darrik asked inquisitively.

"As a matter of fact, I do. Have you ever heard of the elusive ‘Black Rose’?" Ingriz saidas he reached into another breast pocket to pull out a pack of Winston Classics. He placed the unlit cigarette between his lips.

"No… Oi can’t say that Oi ‘ave…" Darrik responded sharply, and then on a second thought, "This inn’t one of those ‘new age chemical’ runs, roight? Oi’ve been gettin too many of those frum you recently."

Ingriz lit the Winston between his lips, taking a slow drag from it. The smoke trailed out noiselessly as he spoke. "No. This is MUCH more lucrative than simple drug runs, my friend." Ingriz grasped the cigarette in between two fingers. "Imagine this. A run so big that it could put you, and especially me, in a relaxing and peaceful retirement. This is what I am talking about, friend, and all it takes is for you to ‘take care’ of a simple annoyance and we’ll be filthy rich." Ingriz inhaled again. "There isn’t much information on this Black Rose, but what is known is that he is quite elusive."

"Loike all of my targets are..." Darrik interjected, rolling his eyes.

"Precisely. I’ll be sending you some information soon enough on the target. The price that is offered on this pretty is set at a six million ECs bounty." Ingriz chuckled briefly as he saw the reaction on Darrik’s face. He took another puff of his cigarette. "Do you accept?"

Darrik sat there for a few moments in contemplative thought. His eyes stared off into no particular space, and he kept silent for several moments. "You got yerself a deal. Oi’ll be expectin’ that info soon enough," Darrik responded finally, and without warning he got up from his seat and turned from Ingriz the Fencer. The apparently elderly man made his way through the crowd, getting back on the distant Maglev to go home.
