Class: technology

Name: Vehicle-Mounted Assault cannon (V-MAC)

Brief: The V-MAC is a vehicle-mounted heavy particle weapon.

Seven words: devastating, expensive, power-consuming, massive, dependant, mobile, rare

Detailed: The V-MAC, or Vehicle-Mounted Assault cannon, is the result of a major breakthrough in particle beam technology. The V-MAC is a long-range particle beam, which works by discharging several thousand volts from its capacitors, similar to a Tesla coil. This energy is focused through six smaller lenses onto a a small chunk of either metal or mineral, depending on desired range. The massive amounts of energy cause the piece to vibrate at an incredible frequency, starting a molecular reaction that pushes outward in a cone shape. Anything caught within the cone is literally shaken apart in a matter of seconds, and anything still standing becomes the target of a massive vacuum as the beam reverses itself. Damage in this case is a function of range due to the nature of the weapon, and those farther from the point of origin will be hit much harder by both the beam and the resulting vacuum.

The V-MAC requires huge amounts of electricity to fire and has to be mounted on a special van-based vehicle. The vehicle is a critical requirement as it contains the storage batteries needed for any sort of extended usage of this gun. The current power supplies only allow for three shots before needing a recharge, which means the V-MAC sees most of its use demolishing opposing buildings and taking out walls. A curious property of the beam allows it to carry through the target and create a total vacuum within a building given the right distance-to-target and density of the surface attacked. The vacuum rarely destroys the building due to its decreased intensity, but is more than capable of killing any living beings inside.

The devastating power of this weapon prevented its release onto the open markets, though in what can only be called a tragic turn of events, the blueprints were released to the Net. Any gang with access to the proper resources and talent may have one, though of varying effectiveness due to the pronounced lack of real engineers and scientists within most gangs. It is thought that some of the Enclave's scientists also posess working variants of these weapons, though it is merely speculation as to whether they mimic the original or use an improved design.
